#P2P-style
Going through some things from my parent’s house and I found this relic of a pre-9/11 internet. I miss this era of P2P file sharing.

God, this might send us back to the 2002 days of p2p WC3-style game hosting isn't it

i keep dreaming of a dat-network style p2p web where domain names are replaced with personal bookmark names where the site can make a suggestion but that's about it. the idea that every IP needs a unique domain is absurd and reeks of artificial scarcity

So I replaced Discord with Jami. Surprisingly good piece of software, and supposedly fully encrypted private P2P. Clearly focused on P2P messaging, as it doesn't have discord style of channels, but does support voice and groupchats. So I guess potentially decent gamechat. Have to see.

I started new project - 3D co-op dungeon crawler. So far I have done options, controls, movement, PoE-style inventory system, audio (using FMOD) and P2P multiplayer system using Steam P2P Steamworks. Now time to finish voice chat and focus on combat mechanics.

Trillions of parameters require massive GPU clusters, you cant get that by doing folding at home style p2p. The commercial gpu market just cant do it.

Built a one knob bass fuzz the other night in P2P style. Quick, fun build, classic circuit. MPSA12 Darlington transistor.

The big idea was that we could combine early machine learning technology with Napster-style P2P file sharing and a web-crawler to help you find things that would interest you.

when i was a kid on vacation i got obsessed with the signature scheme that someone (i think matt) used for card game on atproto, where you can have p2p hidden shuffles and verify at the end

i just don’t see the point over letterbox style review / how game went post

I've spent some time investigating reticulum lately. Sideband has the potential to be a decentralized, encrypted solution predicated on P2P IRC style framework. Thinking about ways to build a protected, open and moderated community.

Talked w @mixmix.bsky.social about allowing users (almost MySpace style 😅) to make cultural neighborhoods through different aesthetic customisations via p2p social media protocols like ssb.

I recently learned of an old technology called packet radio. Basically, direct P2P connection over shortwave HAM radio.

There's also BBS sites you can access with a telnet client, both new and old.

I recall someone experimenting with a old Messenger style protocol somewhere, too.

Wayfinder is going through a huge overhaul, transforming from a Warframe style F2P online game into an offline (with p2p coop) action RPG with more traditional loot and progression systems. I commend Airship for making the tough choices and doing their best to turn Wayfinder into a success.

Centralised networks were weaponised. P2P systems will be exactly the same. How should we design the protocols of tomorrow?

This is the lens through which we’ll look at Willow (willowprotocol.org), a family of open source p2p protocols this coming Sunday at #FOSDEM.

Privilege separation in Tesseras! 5 isolated processes OpenBSD-style (relayd(8)): parent supervises net, dns, http and control via Unix socketpairs. Each child with seccomp-bpf restricting syscalls to the minimum. And about crash? Parent auto-restarts it.

the problem we have now with international public square-style digital hosts/platforms for art and expression is that there are very few squares left and they're in control of very few hands. gotta revive P2P somehow as a system for this

3) multiple, unrelated but connected through a fediverse-style protocol and p2p file share, become connected to each other.

Scale reduces because the cost is now distributed among multiple shards.
It's no longer the responsibility of one person to maintain and administer the membership.
