The current batch of sixth grade scientists made their first rubric earlier this week. It’s always an adventure, but this group was impressive in how they analyzed if effort should be graded.

The less any of it is going to get done well.

Narrow the focus. Quality. Not quantity. For us all.

Teaching is the best job (and the hardest job). Teaching kids. Teaching adults. Doesn’t matter. Still the best.

Knows & Need to Knows are a simple PBL routines.

Students surface what they already know, name what they need to figure out, & help move the learning forward.

As a teacher, I get a much clearer picture of where S’s are starting.

We are pausing Passion Projects this week so we can start our unit on cells, but I couldn’t miss the chance to show off this awesome working motor. One purchased part. The rest cobbled together from supplies already in the room.

Kids are absolutely amazing.

Tough week? Draw something. ✏️

We spent a few minutes passing drawings around and adding to each other’s work.

The results were ridiculous. The laughter was needed.

Sometimes that’s the team building we need. ❤️

Science itself isn’t the answer. Science is all about figuring out the answers. So how do you get students to do that? You get them asking questions.

Really grateful for all of my inquisitive students over the years, and huge thanks to @edutopia.org for publishing this piece!

A3: Plan tight, hang loose! Teachers know what standards need to be covered, getting there could look different depending on the class in front of you. A strong plan with clear deliverables helps guide the work, but be ready to pivot. One size does not fit all in #PBL. #EnergizeEduChat #PBLChat

A2: Trying to make sure projects/ products have an authentic need/ purpose to help engage kids (and local experts to support the work!). Not every project lends itself to service, but when you can find the right people and purpose, it motivates students. #EnergizeEduChat #PBLChat
