An amazing moment this morning, as 4 Crossbills flew from the Lye Valley towards Warneford Meadow, over the Churchill Hospital in urban east Oxford. Constant “chip-chip-chip” flight calls, and huge bills seen! Second patch record ✅👌🏻

Excellent morning at Morton Bagot patch. Loads of Blackcaps and other warblers in hedgerows. Highlights were 10 k patch year-tick Tree Pipit, plus Garden Warbler, and the long-staying Garganey. Only downside was missing a Spot Fly #PWC25

Morton Bagot had too stand-out events today. My largest count here of Avocets (10), and my earliest ever House Martin. No Wheatears, Willow Warblers or LRPs yet though. The Avocets refused to stand together for a photo #pwc25 #warksbirds

Difficult Gull at Earlswood Lakes this week. It looks very like a Yellow-legged Gull, but flight shots show no black band on P5. So either it's a Herring Gull with yellow legs, or the books are wrong about the P5 pattern. #pwc25 #warksbirds

Cesária Évora "Sodade" [Cape Verde 1992]. From my PWC25 longlist. Would've been a respectable choice, equivalent to "Respect" and "Dock Of The Bay," and like those two earns its respect. Warm, thick but not heavy, beautiful, but the sadness of displacement.
