The Iberian scripts are the Paleohispanic scripts used to represent the extinct Iberian language. They are unusual as they are semi-syllabic, alphabetic. The oldest Iberian inscriptions date to the 4th or the 5th century BC, and the latest to the end of the 1st century BC. #EpigraphyTuesday

The #Iberians adopted the #Ionian variant of the #Greek #alphabet to write their #language. Thus the #Greco-Iberian #script is not immediately directly related to other #Paleohispanic scripts.

Northeastern #Iberian is also part of the #Paleohispanic script family and was used to write #Iberian and Proto #Basque.

It has a dual form and non-dual form (1 letter makes 2 sounds).

Sinner & Velaza (2019) have examined the #phylogenetic relationships between #Paleohispanic scripts - it is suggested that the #geneology is more complex than previously thought.

While we're pondering this mysterious text in a mysterious script, here's another one: from l-Qṣər ṣ-Ṣġir in Morocco, now in the Kasbah Museum in Tangier. From the location near the Strait, I tried Paleohispanic but I can't make heads or tails of it. (Vandals?)
