I like Parlainth! It's more on the emergent side of things, and mirrors Pavis/Big Rubble in some ways, but I defy you to not find some good ideas in it. www.vintagerpg.com/2025/08/parl...

I have unearthed ancient lore, wisdom from a bygone age, one of the coolest tabletop RPG box sets of the 90s

Oh.

Oh no.

I think I’m about to get, like, SUPER into Earthdawn again.

Anyone wanna explore the horrible lost city of Parlainth?

Have we considered that instead of moving towards Shadowrun we are moving towards Earthdawn and we're all stuck in Parlainth?

Am posting this for no specific reason, mind you. :)

Oh, and the awesome painting is from the cover of the Parlainth box of Earthdawn, published for the first edition of the game. It's by Les Edwards.

Top five rpg fantasy cities in random order:

- Pavis and Big Rubble (RQ)
- Parlainth (Earthdawn)
- Karkarham (Space 1889)
- Abym (Agone)
- Thistle Hold (Symbaroum)
TOP FIVE FANTASY CITIES!

I am stuck in a meeting and it is too hot so here is Raff's favourite fantasy cities. It's #ttrpg adjacent at best. Sue me.

If you want to play, just share your top five fantasy cities (or scifi if you want, I'm not a cop). Maybe with art?

I feel like we are heading to the other extreme and we live in Parlainth.

I been looking for a copy of Parlainth for my Robin Laws library and it is a challenge to find.

My absolute favourite ever splat book was the Parlainth box set for Earthdawn. It included a huge scribbly map filled with inaccurate doodles, lots of creepy/cool handouts, and info on a tonne of weird monsters and loot, where they lived in the city, what they wanted and how they'd kill you.

Great shout. There are a few solid examples from Earthdawn. The Parlainth city box set was a good example of how to be detailed without being tedious - no surprise given it’s Robin Laws’ I guess

There was a lot to love. So many rich concepts. I loved the tying threads bit, and following a relic's history to make it more powerful, and so much more.

I still have Parlainth, the boxed ruined city module, but heck knows where the rest of my collection went.

Holy shit, incredible find.

Earthdawn had such fascinating lore, and Parlainth was such a neat city.

Damn now I want to do a track about Earthdawn, but I feel like I'd be stealing Logar's Diary's niche.

Correct! Thank you for mentioning this. I've had my eye on a bunch of prints on Edwards' site for a while - Parlainth, the one that was inspired by Clark Ashton Smith's The Holiness of Azédarac, and others. Amazing artist!

A bit of trivia: (afaik) the cover painting was originally made by Edwards for a ttrpg boxed set published by FASA, for their Earthdawn line (which back then was closely related to the more famous Shadowrun universe.)
