👃 Among participants with pre-existing smell and taste distortions, some reported improvement:
Parosmia (distorted smells): 11–18%
Phantosmia (phantom smells): 20–29%
Distorted taste: 12–21%

Worsening was relatively uncommon.

Doubtful GLP-1 drugs have the market so cornered to cause this response.

The thing that literally alters taste? Nearly everyone’s caught that. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Parosmia and altered taste in patients recovering from Covid 19
Parosmia is a well-documented consequence of smell loss associated with Covid 19. Those who experience this qualitative olfactory disorder during recovery find that the odour of common foods and house...

Should I make one thread for my parosmia journey? Sure!

The last week of August, right around when Dolly Parton died, I started having this weird smell thing happening. I thought I smelled and then later realized that garlic and onions smelled rancid. As the week went on, it got worse.

How's about letting me bloody sleep, eh?

Yesterday it was the parosmia thing, today my tummy decided it's time for torture, in the form of intense pain, nausea and anxiety.

Already feeling better, now, but that is not a nice thing to wake up to.

Ah...I had that for 2 months post covid then developed parosmia (and 2 other things!) so it was horrendous...I can empathise however slightly.

"I'll be fine," then I wake up after only two of hours of sleep because of intense, overwhelming parosmia. Sigh.

My hand soap, the one I usually stim with even because it normally smells like a nice mix of apples and cherries, now smells like overly sweet, burnt chemicals.

Everything smells wrong.
Don't want anyone worrying, just having a bit of a weird time tonight.

A wobble, if you will.

Anxiety and sense of dread is high, which has culminated in some sad feels and a sense of despair.

It's fine. I'll be grand. If the proverbial sky falls, then it falls, there's nowt I can do about it.

Did you possibly have covid recently? I developed parosmia after covid that causes people to have distortion of taste and often smell. I had to give up coffee, sodas, bananas, orange juice etc as well as many types of food that was cooked a certain way all tasted bad, like rotten.
So is it just me or has more and more food started to taste like chemicals?

also it's specifically parosmia and it could take weeks or months to heal. cool!!!!

I got parosmia for 3 years after I got covid that was not a flu
I have coworkers to this day who will argue Covid was just the flu. I have had the flu and had Covid and let me tell you....

Verbal fluency was the strongest predictor of smell loss severity, outranking respiratory symptoms and parosmia.

Patients with reduced smell rated pleasant odors lower while unpleasant ratings stayed intact, 15–63 months post-infection. (n=144) #LongCovid
Olfactory dysfunction in post-acute COVID-19: clinical characterization, hedonic asymmetry, and machine-learningbased predictor identification - PubMed
Verbal fluency emerged as the strongest predictor of OD severity in long-term PASC patients. Beyond reduced olfactory sensitivity, hyposmic patients showed asymmetric hedonic impairment, pointing to differential involvement beyond peripheral olfactory loss.

thought my parosmia might be better so i got food with onions on it and unfortunately…

in fact maybe it’s gotten worse?

i thought i was starting to tolerate it. but the olfactory “hallucination” (?) is crazy and i have confirmation from another human that it smelled really good + fresh + tangy

I developed parosmia 1st time I got Covid. I don’t wish it on my worst enemy. Almost everything tasted somewhere between rancid meat and burning pvc pipe. Garlic, chocolate, onions, beer, fried food — all unbearable. Everything returned after a year except popcorn. 3yrs on it still tastes like feet.
The other day I met a guy who claimed that his taste in music changed after having Covid.
Mild ϹΟVΙD can cause subtle cognitive changes lasting up to a year, per this study.

Despite no self-reported symptoms, infected participants showed measurable deficits, hinting at lingering neurological impacts we aren't always aware of.

Found a lot of old friends in your list. Thank you! We're doing mostly good as well. Still have parosmia so that kinda sucks, but back to playing WoW for first time in ages. (missed DF expac entirely) It made me miss the space we created years ago on the birdie site. So I came here looking for it

One of the strangest parts of long covid is the affect on smell. After 1.5 years I still have hyposmia and parosmia and sometimes phantosmia. For the past 3 weeks I have been smelling matches almost constantly but if I lit a match, I wouldn’t be able to smell it.
