Pleased to share our new paper. Group I introns uniquely accumulate in Patescibacteria (formerly CPR bacteria), are inserted at an unusual tRNA position (35/36), and belong to a distinct intron class. Congratulations, Yuna! mSystems journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...

Introns were traditionally thought to be rare in bacteria, yet their occurrence and diversity may have been underestimated. Here, we present the first comprehensive overview of group I and group II in...

How can this CPR strain make its cell membrane? Many CPR (Ca. Patescibacteria) bacteria cannot make fatty acids. If CPR bacteria form cross-domain symbiosis with archaeal hosts, then can hosts provide fatty acids enough to build symbionts' cell membrane?

One of my favorite tools is GTDB but CPR Bacteria does not belong to Patescibacteria, this is one group within CPR.

Important clarification: CPR bacteria ≠ Patescibacteria. When constructing trees without relying on RED scores, it becomes evident that CPR is not a single phylum, but rather comprises multiple distinct phyla.

Fun read about Patescibacteria (or CPR): monophyletic lineage of understudied uncultivated ultrasmall (100-300nm width) bacteria that have large genomic reductions in seemingly essential metabolic functions that they compensate by living at the surface of other bacteria!
