As Russia celebrates the New Year I gauge the mood in Moscow. “Russian people are patient,” one man tells me, “they stay silent.” Thanks to @lizashuvalova.bsky.social

Today I will be taking off my advocacy hat and putting on my patient hat for my surgery tomorrow and subsequent recovery. I’ll keep you updated as possible. Please remember how important your voices are more than ever. I encourage you to use them loudly & often. Keep fighting and NEVER give up hope!

[first day as a psychiatrist]

PATIENT: I’m still hearing voices

ME: *rolls eyes* that’s because we’re talking

Breaking news: bout of psychosis cured by simply telling the patient "no you don't hear voices actually"

I am less and less patient with booming men's voices.

That feeling when you win a union = unmatched 🙌 Strong nurse voices mean stronger patient advocacy. Every patient deserves union nurses!

Women are told to be polite, patient, and quiet while our rights are debated, delayed, or denied.

No!

Women need to be loud and heard! Progress has never come from silence, it comes from voices raised together, refusing to disappear!

RIP Renee

The most important thing is that everybody remained patient if we take the house in the Senate. We need to let our voices know about what’s important to us. But we also need to know that things will not turn around immediately, but some things can be done immediately.

my company is considering launching a podcast on rare diseases, patient voices, and what rare disease patients want pharma companies to know, and I’ve been tapped to co-lead that project 👀

Universal basic income, college should be free, healthcare should be free and uncoupled from employment, government should stop trying to look down people's pants. Oh, and we should triple funding to NIH and CDC, and involve patient voices in grant funding-- like they already do in other countries.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I'm a doctor. I'm also schizophrenic, which is something my colleagues & patients don't know. My schizophrenia makes me a better doctor. Whenever I have a complicated case or a medical mystery, the voices I hear in my head help me to get to the bottom of it & treat the patient.

burnout among healthcare workers is a public health warning, not a personal failing. When staff burn out, prevention and patient safety suffer first. In Hungary, universal care keeps access; burnout still wears teams thin. Eastern European voices deserve space here.

Here's my full testimony for the House Oversight Committee on 7/10/19 for Elijah Cummings when he was Chairman of the committee. It was a humbling honor to testify & represent MILLIONS of voices around the country to STOP ACA SABOTAGE of the 1st Trump Administration!🙏

when you try and counter the mean/self-damaging voices in your head w/ an equally mean voice making fun of what the other voice is saying you've just given yourself more mean voices in your head. I've had way better luck using a gentle, understanding tone. Train yourself to be patient w/ yourself!

Wes Streeting resigns, Sky News exposes his missed targets, and a new bill threatens to silence patient voices entirely.

Is the NHS being modernised, or dismantled?

Lol, thx for being patient. Probably should've released this sooner, but time got away from us, & figured that April Fools made for a convenient excuse to bring it to you here 😏

@wsna.bsky.social is upholding the nursing values of patient autonomy & access to care for these kids & their families.

Healthcare should not be interrupted or influenced by political narratives. We should not prematurely capitulate to discriminatory executive orders.

I can easily imagine the voices in an animated version. The cat is so single-minded and patient. I think most cats would have silently smacked the puppy’s head into the ground half a dozen times and gotten back to business.

The NHS has a long & shoddy history of bullying, smearing & discrediting grassroots voices when they try to speak out about matters of patient safety.

They're doing it now, using obliging journalists as their mouthpiece.

It's infuriating on every level. 6/n

In my latest @nejm.org Voices column, I reflect on the ways @profkori.bsky.social's concept of Know Your Place Aggression helps makes sense of a time a patient with sepsis was almost given the wrong care

Know-Your-Place Aggression Is a Threat to Patient Safety
Racism and sexism are a risk to good patient care and safety.

More and more organisations recognise the power of active travel to help their businesses, improve patient health, reduce inequalities and make the country a better place. I'm proud to have coordinated this effort to bring those voices together around #CWIS3 with @adamtranter.bsky.social
