#Pattypans
I had yellow and green pattypans as controls, this one blew them out of the water (though they are tasty too)

In addition to the cute shape and firm texture, there’s a lot less risk of pattypans getting out of hand in size or quantity

Pattypans aren’t meant to last. 🌱

Eventually, the beds over on this side will have squash (pattypans, zucchini, various winter squash) and the hot greens (collards, mustard, kale).

A lovely sunny day to get out into the garden for some squashy harvest time 😁. I just love all the colours, shapes, sizes & textures of squashes. My favourites are the tromboncino, pattypan & harlequin. 😍 #sustainability #Smallholding #OrganicLiving #HomeGrown #VegetableGarden

The tricolor pattypans will be interesting. The seeds came in the same packet but they were dyed, so I easily sorted them by color to guarantee one pair of each. The striped ones are totally new to me and I am excited.

I'm going hard on "it's a squash iff you have to cook it" even though I'm going to be beset on all sides by hooting yahoos confronting me about summer squash and pattypans and things of this nature.

I am a subject matter expert, after all

the pattypans we've been buying this year have been wonderful, hope the same is true for your homegrowns!

it feels like the oddball weather has been great for pattypans and strawberries both 🤷🏻‍♀️

The rest of the squash halves. Yes, I cut the yellow one unevenly. 😁

here they’re called pattypans 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ and they taste like the water you boil a courgette in 🥲

Pattypans can be dimpled like that. I still say squash. Still looks like crap, though.

Cultivated plants we think of as very different are often much more closely related than is commonly realized. Brassica oleracea became cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and more. Carving pumpkins, zucchini, pattypans, delicata, and yellow squash are all Cucurbita pepo

A PSA for my fellow braaiers (possibly mainly South Africans) - the next time you expect to have space on the braai, get some baby marrows and/or baby gem squashes and/or pattypans, trim the ends and split down the middle to expose the inner flesh. 1/2

It’s time for clean-out-the-crisper veggie soup. I have leeks, carrots, cauliflower, kale & pattypans. Plenty of herbs. I can make a good veggie soup out of that but I feel uninspired. Any thoughts #whatscooking? 🍽️

Photo of veggie-box clean-out pasta sauce & pattypan - I’ve never cooked these!
