On this day in 1922 Pauline Baynes was born.

She is best known for illustrating the Narnia books.

Believe it or not she only met CS Lewis in person three times! They mostly communicated by letters.

Black and white portrait of a woman with curly hair looking thoughtfully to the side against a dark background. An illustration our children and two black beavors sit around a table in a cosy, rustic room with a wood stove and hanging herbs. An illustration of two people walking hand in hand through a snowy forest path surrounded by tall trees and snow-covered branches.

Always fancied copies of the Methuen Canadian editions of #LOTR as I love the cover art by Pauline Baynes. Finally got hold of copies which are in reasonably good condition for age #Tolkien #PaulineBaynes
