#Perdikkas
Anyway, after much thought, I have determined the roles here are

Perdikkas: water gun guy
Leonnius: put the cutting board in the oven
Ptolemy: recording to send to Mydei
Peucesta: guy in the back

I like it, but also: opening scene with a palace hallway with a bunch of extremely tense Macedonian officers. Perdikkas emerges from a door.

Perdikkas: The king is dead.

Someone (Antigonos maybe): And the empire? What did he say about the succession?

Pause.

Perdikkas: "to the strongest."

As for Ptolemy, I think he had more innate ability than Perdikkas, who seemed to have skated on family rep (likely Orestian royalty). Also Eumenes knew what he was about. I have mixed thoughts on Krateros. But *Seleukos* was cleverer than Ptolemy, imo. He also took his Persian wife's advice. ;-)

My 2nd guest: the inestimable, brilliant Dr. Sabine Müller, Die Philipps-Universität Marburg. She discusses King Perdikkas II's masterful balancing act during the Peloponnesian War, keeping Macedon free and independent. #classicsbluesky #ancientbluesky #ancientmacedonia

On US election eve, it seemed appropriate to talk power politics at the court of #AlexandertheGreat, #5 in my #Hephaistion posts. Here, I discuss allies and enemies, including #Perdikkas, #Krateros, and #Eumenes. Prosopography R us! #ancientbluesky #classicsbluesky #Hephaestion #Perdiccas #Craterus

Of course, if You prefer something more Greek, there are plenty like Eumenes, Perdikkas, Leukos, Talos, Epominondas, Parmenion, Solon...

I for one continue to maintain that Perdikkas was the legitimate successor to Alexander.

mydei sitting on his throne (phainon) and discussing strategies with his advisors (friends)

phainon has a death grip on mydei’s hips, waiting patiently for the meeting with perdikkas and the others to finish, but then mydei leans forward to grab a document

That’s right: he deceptively (theft of the body) acted against Alexander’s will (the grant of regency to Perdikkas; the likely choice of burial place) in the hope of direct personal gain (legitimacy and power). Arrian’s preface must be false.
July 19, 2025 at 2:20 AM
Perdikkas was the lawful regent, with the authority to dispose of it properly. If Alexander’s will was that his body should end up at Siwa, there’s no reason to think he intended it to enter Ptolemy’s possession. In any case, Ptolemy didn’t bury it at Siwa, and seems never to have intended to.

perdikkas in his manfailure era and eurydike doing her gaslight gatekeep girlboss thingy. everybody in this novel is a little bitch (except for bagoas 🥺) and i absolutely love it

That whole era of music, really. I got stuck in my class on Tuesday because I couldn't remember the name of the Macedonian ruler who followed Perdikkas II, but yet I can remember every lyric of Skid Row's "Monkey Business." And I didn't even like that album.

they keep giving him hell for this, too. there's at least one scene afterwards where they're all in group chat like

mydei: okay guys it’s not me having a crush this dude is just fucking weird!!!!
hephaestion: press X to doubt
ptolemy: X
perdikkas: X
leonnius: X
peucesta: X
mydei: oh fuck you guys

#hsrtweeting #ephmutetag has your favorite trope: mydei/hyacine
—my favorite trope is something I loosely refer to (incorrectly) as "replacement goldfish." essentially, loving someone who reminds you of another, intentionally and/or with great horror. in this case it is mydei about perdikkas
July 12, 2025 at 5:41 AM
#hsrtweeting when mydei first tells phainon about his friends in "memories, veiled in blazing mist" (3.1), he does so in a specific way: he mentions them in the order they die. hephaestion is the exception to this; he is mentioned first, and with the most detail, though—as I mentioned—he dies last.

Weeeeellll....I don't completely disagree or agree there. It's always useful being reminded of the limits of knowledge from the historians especially (though I think both Alex and Caesar are bad examples, albeit the ones people have certainly heard of rather than, say, Perdikkas, so usable) and

Basically, Ptolemy is who you want on your team during trivia night, while Perdikkas is gonna blow your mind with his Jenga towers
February 4, 2026 at 1:15 AM
In other words, I see Ptolemy as the kind to do thorough research and studying to be as prepared as possible for whatever situation he's going into

While Perdikkas is much more hands on in finding what works and what doesn't, with each prior experiment laying the foundation of his knowledge

I just realized the quickest way to explain my takes on Ptolemy and Perdikkas from the Kremnoan Detachment

Ptolemy is "debate team" smart, while Perdikkas is "engineer" smart
