I was quite excited by this today – it seems to be the second global record of a Peronospora on Potentilla erecta. Peronospora potentillae-reptantis is known from some related species.

I saw my first Peronospora ficariae of the year yesterday! Look out for yellowed, downturned leaves of Lesser Celandine with branched conidiophores underneath (visible with a hand lens).

In 2023 I painted Peronospora leaf spot of rhubarb, caused by the oomycete Peronospora jaapiana.

This year I'm going to try and catch up on a number of the fascinating Downy Mildews that I've yet to see. This is Peronospora ficariae - common on Lesser Celandine leaves in Lidlington graveyard, Bedfordshire.

Look out for the downy mildew, Peronospora ficariae on Lesser Celandine, Ficaria verna. Infected petioles elongate and the leaf edges curl under. Plants often look paler. Very noticeable when you get your eye in.

My favourite find today was this Peronospora on Trifolium striatum. Both it and its host are new to me. They were accompanied by a lovely view!

Succisa pratensis is coming into flower so it's time to look for the grey conidiophores of Peronospora violacea on deformed flowerheads (enlarged corolla and shriveled anthers). They can be up to several times the size of uninfected ones!
