For those following the thoughtwork, I threw in a conditional to handle normal economic slowdowns not due to automation. This little robin of spring is ready to leave the nest. It'll fly.

Would you like some #poetry with your economics? Of course you would. Here is the summary of Coase's life & ideas using rhyming couplets. It's harder than you think y'know! Listen to the podcast to learn more. #EconSky #PoetSky

maluco longe de mim defender economia mas como que essas pessoas se julgavam liberais, apreciadoras de liberalismo, estavam lá fracassando em inventar pareto, coase, pigou e isso meio que era levado a sério em toda a youtubersfera

Here's a reprise of my early morning post promoting a rewrite of a popular blog addressing the need for a UBI and the theoretical context of one such scheme. For your inspection.

I have just rewritten my popular post on the calculation of a correction to aggregate demand to account for the externality of a lack of a route to transfer wealth created by AI and AI driven #robots to human consumers. It is far more coherent and sensible. For your consideration.

Pigou said that private interests generating negative public externalities need to redress those expenses as a cost of doing business. As far as I'm concerned if AI damages aggregate demand, and it almost certainly will, that's a negative externality and redress is a cost of doing business.

I am defending my funding scheme for a #UBI. My scheme is conditional on shortfalls in aggregate demand, no shortfall, no correction fee. So before you take exception you need to answer two questions: retrain for what?

I have posted a new #blog journaling some thoughtwork on my way to what promises to be a fairly original, but intellectually derived from #Marshall and #Pigou, argument for a #UBI based on #MultipleCapitalAccounting, a form of #TrueCostAccounting. For your consideration.

Think my views on a lot can come down to "Price in the externalities" and "Give people money if they need it".
Charging for things is so so so so underrated

As an economist, why do I like gas taxes?
- Ramsey: demand for gas is relatively inelastic, so the tax is less distortionary than taxes on goods with relatively more elastic demand
-Pigou: gasoline use has externalities, so tax it to change behaviour in a way that accounts for those negative effects
Up to $20 back in your pocket every time you fill up.

Our plan cuts up to 30 cents a litre off gas by suspending part of the gas tax and reining in big oil’s profits at the pump. It’s one of the ways we'll make life more affordable, and how we build B.C. strong.

Maybe when JD visits Europe again he can, in advance, read some books on economics 😉, before he starts lecturing us.

Smith, Mill, Marx, Pigou, Marshall and Keynes of course. Ok, Hayek is also a possibility🙂.

If I still had the attention span necessary to read long-form writing, something on my reading table might be: more Arthur Cecil Pigou

Fix economics (resources, including waste absorption, are limited)

Arthur Pigou solved this problem in 1920!

The proceeds going to the oil producers isn't exactly what Arthur Pigou imagined, but hey let's not get too picky here.
I want to thank Based Green Donald for imposing the world's stupidest carbon tax.

There is a miscomputation of responsibility under capitalism.

Many liberal thinkers like Alexis de Tocqueville, Robert Dahl, John Stuart Mill, and Arthur Cecil Pigou held similar views to economic democracy.

End-times capitalism kills Pigou.

The polluter profits.
The polluted pay with their lives.
Yesterday, a federal judge axed New York State’s climate superfund act, a landmark law that would have charged fossil fuel companies $75 billion over 25 years for climate damages.

Just to take an historical example Alfred Marshall was a protégé of Henry Sidgwick, and Arthur Cecil Pigou was Marshall's protégé.

There *is* a certain patron/client flavor to the tie, and there are academic contexts where strong personal investments are inappropriate.

Reading Ian Kumekawa's intellectual biography of Arthur Cecil Pigou, I was struck by how few high-quality photographs of him are available online.

I contacted several archives and it turns out there are plenty! Pigou as head boy, during WW1, as professor, climbing the Mont Blanc, and more!
