The shared principles of human and bacterial antiviral immunity

An honor to highlight remarkable discoveries from many labs over the past 12 years that unite previously disparate fields of how animal cells and prokaryotes defend against viruses.

An article on Model Organisms, published in Science in 2005, lists the Models that together represent "the diversity of life".
Guess which model is missing from the list?

This view is one major reason why it's so difficult to obtain funding for basic plant research.

Nice resource for scientific illustrations in life sciences but the Plant's section only has two images of "grass" :(

Most people admire birds, animals, insects, but are sort of unaware of plants and their vital role in supporting all life.

When will @embo.org realise #plants also have organelles and get sick too! & #plantscience always uses orgsnismal models! As the saying goes “Medicine can save you one day, but plants save you everyday!” #plantblindness

Great seed-banking story from Wales, saving seeds of rare plant species, and the challenge to obtain them. Has nice photos as well. #botany #conservation #botanists #PlantBlindness
Doomsday seed collectors aim to save Wales' native species
Should the apocalypse arrive, Wales as we know it may depend on these two conservationists.

Just watched a young lass of about two stop her dad and show him this little garden in the high street pavement. Delightful! They see the important things we adults miss. #plantblindness

Brilliant to see #BUC2026 growing! Plant literacy matters as biodiversity crisis deepens. We need to revalue what we're losing - the common, the overlooked, the "weeds" botsoc.scot/2025/12/31/r... #PlantBlindness #Biodiversity @camplantsci.bsky.social @newphyt.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Adding insult to injury, they go on to say that Arabidopsis thaliana COULD be considered an important model too... but not really. "Seats are limited", and how important is food really??

I don't know why the Nobel Prize in 1946 was not at least shared between Muller & Stein. Because she was a woman? Because she worked on plants? Because she wrote in German? But even more critical: Why is Stein's work STILL being ignored today??? #WomenInSTEM #WomenInBotany #PlantBlindness
