it's a set, but it's a real, complete house that the original owner went all out some of the gaudiest plasterwork ever done. the whole house is like this. allegedly he'd done the whole job himself, painting, casting, all that. in the middle of a suburb. you'd never know it from the outside.

Colour photo of a one-storey neoclassical house with a flat roof and decorative plasterwork. Early 20th Century at a guess, probably Athenian Belle Epoque. The plasterwork is recessed rectangles with raised borders - tiny horizontal ones along the roofline, large vertical pairs between the windows topped with a horizontal and recalling columns. The recessed bits are painted ochre brown. The plaster is peeling but has not started to fall. A tall window in shot has an ochre brown wooden shutter. The door is the glass and metal style, in many smaller panels, the white metalwork patterned with paired curlicues meeting in heart shapes. Thevband of painted plaster rectangles at the roofline is bordered to top and bottom by ridges, also ochre brown. Above, a later wall has been added, probably to make the roof a sfer outdoor seating area. Tiny drainage rectangles along the bottom of this wall echo the design below.

No particular reason, but here are some rooflights and/or oculi, from the archive.

A cancer support centre, an old bird house, a bank, and an art gallery.

Three from Scotland, one from Germany. And honestly the third one isn’t actually American. Really.

A view of a cutout in a roof designed to bring daylight down into an interior. It’s lined by a square series of golden metallic panels to reflect of the light, but each of these is also perforated with a graphical pattern of triangular cutouts. This admits textured light through the panels into the interior but also means the reflected light becomes more textured too. Glazing below also features a series of linear frits, and the overall effect becomes a lovely series of gradually increasing graphical textures of light and colour, diffusing the view of the wooden interior. A tiny open oculus at the top of this domed doocot/ dovecote admits daylight down into the interior, and that daylight catches the concentric horizontal bands which form the shelves on which birds would sleep. A neoclassical domed ceiling with a glimpse of some of the cornice and heavily decorated arches on the adjacent supporting walls. There’s a lot of ornate plasterwork all over it, and there are rich colours of red, white, blue, and gold. The main dome, painted a deep blue, features a central circular oculus, but also a series of concentric rings of star-shaped rooflights, all admitting bright daylight. The whole thing looks very, VERY American, but it’s actually the old main branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, in Edinburgh. A view of a roof designed to bring daylight down into an interior. A modern roof structure of incredibly thin but also very deep white-painted concrete fins, in radial lines and concentric circles, under a glazed roof, all spanning over a wide circular atrium in an art gallery. It’s a cloudy day outside so the daylight is completely diffuse, but it’s flooding into the atrium all the same, and the thin lines of the window glazing or bottom edges of the structural fins form dark edges in contrast against the bright sky.

We repainted the outside paintwork of our Victorian terraced house. Although the guy at the end was probably correct that the original colour was cream, the entire terrace except for him has picked white paint, and the plasterwork has shared elements. Not painting half a bird in cream

Positioned at the far end of the central nave, the massive altarpiece features intricately carved wood completely covered in shimmering gold leaf. It is structured with multiple tiers displaying religious figures and decorative niches. The high barrel-vaulted ceiling features intricate, raised relief plasterwork (yesería) detailed with extensive gilding and colorful religious murals.

That detail of the reredos's central palace from my last post on the topic, basically a big blue and gold building with a central dome, between two blue and white marble pillars and sitting on a marble altar with a great big golden sun with plasterwork of, I think, a lamb curled up in the middle of it, at the center Extract from the video to Bleed Me White showing a theatre stage, all fancy rococo columns and gold tassled curtains, occupied by Ange Dolittle's severed head on a platter dangling from four ropes. Beneath it are three candles.
