#Plutonium-239
So many people are, sadly, unaware that glitter has the same half life as plutonium-239.

Quick note guys, estradiol is not plutonium-239 and exposing yourself to slightly more than usual will not make you melt or explode
lol instagram just showed me this I’m so glad I’m not one of these people no offense

Technically we CAN make helium, it just requires us to produce weapons-grade plutonium first (Pu-239 emits LOTS of alpha particles that pick up electrons and form a helium gas that can be harvested)
October 31, 2026 at 8:04 PM
This 3 cm (150 gr!) glowing sphere isn’t burning: it’s a plutonium-238 oxide pellet spontaneously at 1000 degrees ♨️☢️

Unlike plutonium-239, which can sustain chain reactions, controlled radioactive decay of this pellet releases about 62 W of heat […]

Today in 2000, Congress passed and President Bill Clinton signed the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Act, providing long-overdue payments and medical benefits to people who mined, milled, or transported uranium for nuclear weapons, or who built, tested, or maintained them.

Actually the CANDU reactors are perfect for producing weapons grade plutonium 239.

Heinrich says the bill “will age very well over time.” As written, it will certainly age, locking in data centers and nuclear waste on public lands for generations. After all, the half-life of plutonium-239 is about 24,000 years.

westwise.substack.com/p/the-senate...
The Senate permitting bill would lock in data centers and nuclear waste on public lands. It only gets worse from there
A startup wants 456 nuclear reactors, a fuel plant, and nuclear waste storage on 9,000 acres of public land. The Senate permitting bill would make sure the next president can’t touch it

Hey man, I got that plutonium you ordered- Yeah! 235 and 239, just like you wanted, nice and crunchy with an atomic cerulean finish- It's like pop rocks and an energy drink in one!

Check it out!

MOX fuel breeder cycle was entirely positive in the Plutonium-238 and Plutonium-239 amounts, and just took more Uranium-238 to run, only requiring a little bit of Plutonium-238 to bootstrap the process.

The changes aim to make the rest of the recipes viable for obtaining Plutonium-239
October 10, 2026 at 8:48 AM
this is kinda like in a nuclear reactor where you have-
TYLERTFOLSE?!

anyways simon is getting the most, due to radium being ALOT more unstable than uranium or plutonium, uranium 235 has a half life of around 704 million years and plutonium 239 around 24k years. While radium 225 has a half life
October 10, 2026 at 1:33 PM
In the new update, Plutonium-239 can initailly be obtained *only* through Advanced nuclear fuel reprocessing. This unlocks nuclear breeding as a trigger unlock instead of taking science packs. Nuclear breeding then allows researching the technologies for uses of Plutonum-239.
October 10, 2026 at 8:48 AM
The balance changes are addressing how absolutely busted MOX fuel was. Since it only took Plutonium-238 and Uranium-238 and could be used as a /substitute/ of Plutonium-239 in the breeder reactor, it almost entirely removed the need for advanced nuclear fuel reprocessing.
October 10, 2026 at 8:48 AM
MOX fuel only requires the plutonium processing technology as a prerequisite, as it does not depend on Pu-239. It has also been made to produce no waste that you would otherwise need to manage.

This hopefully makes it an option as a more convenient or efficient option for nuclear in space.

Plutonium-239 is a radioactive isotope used in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons. Federal law restricts the import, possession, and transportation of nuclear material, while plutonium is prohibited from being sent through the US mail without authorization.

Jacob D. Miller admitted to illegally importing plutonium from Russia and selling it online to at least 67 customers across the US and abroad.

This, I know something about.

The Soviets stopped using plutonium 239 in smoke detectors circa 1970s. Those detectors were industrial smoke detectors, not home units.

Why? Cost: They already had plutonium enrichment & purification processes set up. The half-life is 23k versus 0.4K years vs Am241
October 7, 2026 at 2:02 PM
Called it. (some predictability here esp given headline; mention of Russia is gratituitous & sensationalizing btw)

Jackass ran "Collect Periodic Table" & sold for $500 Pu from claimed Russian smoke detectors to "at least" 67 people in 3+ years.

enabled thallium murder.

Had CSAM (again).

...sale of “every collectible element sample and even some rare and hard to find ones,” including what it called a sample from a “cold war era smoke detector source” for $500, the document said. The sales included plutonium-239 [...] that he imported from a seller in St. Petersburg, Russia, it said.

Why are we going to war with Iran over enriched uranium??

The nuclear core / trigger of EVERY nuclear weapon in the U.S. arsenal is plutonium-239 not enriched uranium.

Concerns over Iran’s uranium enrichment is a red herring.

Something isn’t right here.

smoking on that enriched uranium pack. doing lines of plutonium-239. fucked up off a hit of straight lithium-6 decay.

Here’s the question here: why are we going to war over enriched uranium??

Plutonium-239 - Arch Linux made unbreakable and lightning fast. Initial in-development release, announced here on Lemmy first.
submitted by yxc999 to linux 56 points | 17 comments https://pu-239.org/ 19 days ago I announced my plans here on Lemmy and after four weeks and ~300 hours in total, I can finally share the first ISO of my project with this community. ~~“sometime next week” yeah that was optimistic lmao~~ I want to thank you again for the feedback on the initial announcement and I can say I tried my best to address and implement a lot of your suggestions! For the people that haven’t read the last post, this is the basic gist of it: Unlike immutable distributions that lock you out of the native package manager and force you into sandboxes, Plutonium-239 keeps the core Arch experience intact. You still get the bleeding-edge Arch repositories and the power of the AUR but all of that with a 5-20% performance boost from a heavily optimized kernel and the peace of mind of an unbreakable safety net underneath. For the ISO and the in-depth technical documentation, please visit my website at the link in the title! **The 0.0.1 version is a pre-release/in-development version meant for experienced people interested in this project.** I tested it extensively and I’m running it for a few days now on my Thinkpad myself, however I can IN NO WAY guarantee that this is 100% viable to daily-drive just yet. I’m very thankful for every person that considers testing this distro in a VM or on a secondary PC to contribute to the development of this project. Any feedback is appreciated and I hope my work can be of value to you! Edit: from the feedback that was pm’d to me so far it seems like it’s working fine when it’s running but two people had issues with the hardware detection during the install. If you are experiencing a similar issue, please send me your hardware specs and the output of the log where it failed and I’ll be able to make it more robust!
