Fireworks Sparks fly where quiet should reside, A short fuse I never learned to hide. Crackling tension prickles under skin, One careless word and fireworks begin. Each flare arrives with thunder at its heel, Announcing every wound I try not to feel. Can't look away, transfixed by the show, Not seeing the ash falling below. I am learning power is choosing when the loudest thing is not the explosion. The silence feels larger than the anger ever did. I gather charred pieces. Maybe I was made this way. A fuse, a flash, A sky full of noise. Until the dark returns.

I never asked to be a sonnet, see I always thought I'd be a Villanelle. I want refrains, that's what appeals to me Not this iambic dum de dum de hell But from the pen, flow inky chains, their spell Restricts artistic flow, syllabiclly And all my dreams are dashed... So I'll rebel I never asked to be a sonnet see. I'll break those chains that tell me what to be And bring back lines the poet wants to quell I want refrains, that's what appeals to me Each stanza's fine as just a three And cast that meter off as well, I never asked to be a sonnet see. Although, now that I've broken free And won myself the chance to breathe in metres that I really felt I see the benefits of form as well..... Lizzie Borden Yes of course dear, I’m sure you’re right. I didn’t understand with my feeble little empty head. I back up slowly, I walk away; Avoid and deflect each verbal blow; Words like an axe to my ego. Smooth things over. Soothe the rage Speak quietly to calm the storm. That is how the game’s been played. Game over— I am done. I will not suffer another verbal lashing. I am Lizzie Borden reborn. I will wield words like an axe to protect myself. Come for me— I dare you.

Reflux It ain't a scowl It's a squint It ain't a guess It's a hint It ain't a gripe It's a suggestion It ain't a heart attack It's indigestion It ain't a idea It's a dream It ain't a club It's a scene It ain't a view It's a borderline seditionist socially progressive idea that outlines how easy it is to casually fall into fascism, and how once those political positions become entrenched in positions of power, the only effective measures to remove them are all the options that are socially not acceptable to discuss, but primarily involve physical defence of liberty and freedom at a personal cost of health and comfort to ensure a fair and just future for our kids oh, and a word that rhymes with view.

Fair warning, this is about self-harm and that demon voice I used to hear. It just worked for this one.

it started with a yellow coupon cutter. a dark male voice within me told me to take the blade out to cut my skin. I didn't know people did such things. but I did it. and the voice sounded pleased. I got a better blade, a carpet blade from the hardware store I worked at. very heavy and sharp. the voice was like a dark gray cloud that always sat around my shoulders and ears, covering them, easier to whisper to me that way. how I was a mistake. I never was meant to walk this earth. nothing I ever did could ever be good enough for anyone, so what's the point? I picked at scabs, it's a bad habit and made the scars stand out more in the end. eventually I discovered that heating metal elements like blades and paperclips in a candle flame and then pressing them to my skin caused so much more pain and damage. those are the scars on my shoulders. at least I was artistic about it, most people ask if I've had tattoos removed. I don't remember how or when the voice left. I'm grateful he hasn't come back. but it did, and I eventually stopped hurting myself. I haven't picked up a blade in twenty years. should you listen to someone you cannot see? blind faith can cause pain
