This mural on the Marysin Cultural Centre depicts Król Maciuś, a character from books by Polish Jewish author, pediatrician and holocaust survivor Janusz Korczak.

Król Maciuś is an inspiring character for children. He is strong, brave and tries to help others around him.

Just finished this novel by Olga Tokarczuk, I've had this @twistedspoon edition for a while but have never got round to reading it.

I will definitely look out for her other novels as I really enjoyed this.

"Any good poem becomes abstract in some way. But it always has to do with reality, with the poet's life or the lives of others."

— Wisława Szymborska,

She taught us that the universal is not found in the clouds, but in the details.

#WislawaSzymborska #PolishLiterature #Poetry
She wrote of cats in empty apartments, of onions, of a single grain of sand. Yet, the poet of the concrete held a secret about the abstract. On her birthday, we celebrate Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska, a master of the most profound poetic alchemy. She famously explained her process, a truth that unlocks her entire universe: "Any good poem becomes abstract in some way. But it always has to do with reality, with the poet's life or the lives of others." This was her genius: to look at one small, real thing with such astonishing precision, irony, and wonder that it became a mirror for all of existence. She didn't write about "love" or "loss"; she showed us a specific key in a specific hand, and in doing so, let us feel the weight of everything. She taught us that the universal is not found in the clouds, but in the details.

Koper or Dill is often cited as Mikołaj Rej's beloved & cherished herb. What evidence supports this. Perhaps his love for dill is lost to time or in hidden manuscripts.

- a curious footnote in Poland’s rich culinary & literary heritage.

Polish poet Mikołaj Rej mentions dill (koper) in a recipe in The Life of an Honest Man (1568). Though often cited that he actually cherished dill, what evidence supports this. Perhaps the true extent of his love for dill is lost to time or hidden in forgotten manuscripts. What remains is a curious footnote in Poland’s rich culinary and literary heritage. Dill is often cited and supposedly known as Mikołaj Rej beloved herb, that he held close to his heart and cherished.
