It's called the "polycrisis."

? Why would people stop worrying about it, talking about it, advocating for polcies and laws to mitigate it, etc.?
One of the more interesting questions for the near future is whether millenarian thinking quiets down as the 21st century progresses: with full climate and AI impacts likely visible, the absorption of demographic shifts, and the passage of the millennium and the "apocalyptic" 15th century of Islam.

> They’re living through a polycrisis. And what they’re seeing in the world of adults is depressing. There’s a lot that we can do to help young people. But much of it starts locally. Much of it starts with adults checking their own behaviors.

The war on Iran is a war on global energy and food production, and while a flare-up in hostilities could certainly make the crisis much, much worse, the slow grind is already working ‘as it should.’

in general, I think basic musicianship for an elective class is relatively insulated from The Tech Polycrisis, because the people who tend to take it for easy credits aren't smart or clever enough to fabricate the work without being coerced to follow your bullshit

I don't like framing the polycrisis as a cluster of "wicked problems" because most are relatively straightforward, or at least 95% of them are. For the last 5% we're very clever when motivated. Eg framing the climate crisis as a wicked problem is a fossil carbon industry disinformation tactic.

It's the same everywhere. The liberal party that is better at administering the economy is also better at wrecking the climate because it's a growth problem, not a regulatory problem.

I see the polycrisis solving itself through collapse. I plan for that future.

What Will Chicago Look Like in 100 Years? Planning Agency Plots Out Region's Water, Energy, Infrastructure Needs
Northeastern Illinois is facing mounting challenges as the region sees an uptick in severe weather, an aging population and evolving technological needs. That trifecta is what the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) calls the “polycrisis.” In response, the group has created a roadmap in an effort to help Chicago and the surrounding area prepare for those problems for the next 100 years. The Century Plan, which is still in the preview phase, is akin to the 1909 Plan of Chicago that sought to preserve public assets like the lakefronts and forest preserves. CMAP intends to have a final plan by October 2027. The agency has identified five grand challenges it seeks to address: transportation, water, the electric grid, housing and open space. “The problems that we’re seeing today aren’t problems that one community or multiple communities can solve on their own,” said Erin Aleman, executive director of CMAP. “It’s really the collective impact that I think we’re going to need to be thinking about in order to address the systems that are going to set us up for success for the next century.” Among the concerns outlined by the agency are the region’s future water supply and growing demands...

Macro context for AI:
- The new space race (basically Musk vs. China)
- The polycrisis (I'm waiting for DC Comics to use this as a crossover title)
- Cold War 2.0 (US vs. China, and the AI race within)
- Climate change ("weirdly, not talking about it doesn't slow it down")
