In Britain, it’s polymaths.
"Polymath" is one of the single worst self-identifiers out there, right up there with "high IQ" and "autodidact".
I'd be super worried to see someone self-identify as a "polymath" even if they were an actual polymath (and the same, respectively, w/ "high IQ" and "autodidact")

Honestly I understand the emotional impact as someone who also has a PhD in Math but didn't pursue a career using it. And also if mathematicians can go past that part, the amount of power an LLM grants a rigorous mathematician is insane.

Of course I also think it is deliberate as a way of keeping polymaths from acquiring a formal education because polymaths tend to challenge the status quo and established institutions. Capitalism wants drones just smart enough to make widgets but not to ask why they are making widgets.
