So very, very happy to see this out @plosbiology.org : Ancient inversion polymorphisms associate with sexually selected traits across natural guppy populations. Beautiful work by two very clever and talented coauthors, Yuying Lin and @vdbijl.bsky.social . journals.plos.org/plosbiology/... 1/
Ancient inversion polymorphisms associate with sexually selected traits across natural guppy populations
Genomic inversions spanning many genes can persist for millions of years. This study of Trinidadian guppy populations reveals how both ecological conditions and mate choice help maintain this hidden l...

Inversion Polymorphisms Carried by Introduced Rainbow Trout Disrupt Hybrid Zones Between Native Species
Genomic mechanisms explaining why some hybrid zones remain stable while others collapse into hybrid swarms are poorly understood. In Montana's Kootenai River Basin, native interior redband trout (Onc...

ADHD evolved as an adaptation to living in a hunter-gatherer society, modern diets did not cause heritable dopamine receptor polymorphisms.
Stop it. Don't start nothing that is not there. We don't need that drama creating crap here. My son has ADHD. We didn't start having these cases until the bulk of our food ingredients changed. NOBODY would choose to have ADHD or Autism. Or heck, any other issue. So please grow up start drama elsewa

They're looking for "single nucleotide polymorphisms", or SNPs: parts where one base pair out of the sequence is "spelled" differently. Our genome is very forgiving: like the human brain can understand lots of misspelled words, our bodies can still function with many differently spelled SNPs.

Our miRNA story is now in @science.org ! We found a microRNA, not a protein, that finally solved a long-standing evolutionary mystery of wing coloration in butterflies and moths. (1/n)

A microRNA is the effector gene of a classic evolutionary hotspot locus
In Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), the genomic region around the gene cortex is a “hotspot” locus, repeatedly implicated in generating intraspecific melanic wing color polymorphisms across 100 mi...

"Our results indicate that there are single-nucleotide polymorphisms that could be used to predict strain-specific ANDV virulence and/or transmissibility."
