I had such a difficult time with the concept of negative numbers in 7th grade prealgebra, I thought it was going to end me and math.
No one around me seemed to be bothered by less than zero. I panicked.
I faked comprehension by treating them as shorthand for an operator and a positive number

My 4-year/old just learned about the concept of infinity and is now throwing a tantrum over it. “It’s weird! I don’t like it. I just want numbers to stop!”

i tend to roll my eyes when people say a character is too mentally ill to be in a relationship but when it comes to ave mujica i get it. i dont ship any of these sad 15 year olds with anything but intensive cognitive behavioral therapy. and maybe their prealgebra homework

I had the combo of a school system that still wanted immediate rote arithmetic answers including oral multiplication tests & class chanting reinforcement while unknowingly having bad auditory working memory bc ADHD.
Hit prealgebra, did better for years.
Then AP Calc went rote memorization.

1) I'm an 8th grade and high school math teacher teaching the whole Prealgebra to Calculus sequence.
2) Today was actually pretty good. I got to sit in the dunk tank for a fundraiser. Surprisingly fun! And also got to tell some parents about the growth I'm seeing in their students. 😁

We’re watching @booker.senate.gov on the Senate floor while we do Prealgebra. Educating my daughter has taken some weird-ass turns in the last year or so, between the collapse of democracy and the rise of plagiarism machines. But I’m glad to bring this bit of good fight into our day.

Today in our #homeschool we're participating in the economic blackout. Continuing to read Habibi, Fellowship of the Ring, & Waste. Kid will also do some geography, PreAlgebra, go to piano, and work on his newest research paper - about foods of Japan. (His topic choice.)
