Thought that this circular structure on the Firth of Forth must have been part of the WWII coastal defences hereabouts. There are enough remnants still evident. However, on checking it seems it was something to do with the nearby coal mine at Prestongrange, outside Musselburgh.

Not all museums are about Roman pottery or Egyptian mummies.

Some have engines or remember coal pits and brickworks - all of the remains of hundreds or years of purposeful smart industry that made the wheels of the economy turn.

What a fantastic name!

John Morison, a burgess, bailie and Treasurer of Edinburgh, purchased a part of Prestongrange in East Lothian from the Kerr family in 1609. His son, Alexander, a Lord of Session, developed the harbour.
