me: man what a wonderful day where nothing weird is happening

biology: btw ants are doing "prokaryotes evolving into eukaryotes" type fuckery on a macroorganismic scale :)

The origin story of eukaryotes has more plot twists than a Hollywood blockbuster! 🧵

Only in the 1960s were the terms "prokaryote" and "eukaryote" formalized! As originally defined, eukaryotes had complex architectures, prokaryotes did not.

Histone-mediated chromatin organization in prokaryotes and viruses
Histones are fundamental chromatin-organizing proteins in eukaryotes and archaea, where they assemble into (hyper)nucleosomes that wrap DNA. Recent studies have expanded the known repertoire of histon...

Not so "systematic" as very few known, fun stuff on MGE, antidefense islands and cool phages exaptations!
