Whoever leaked from BBC Board made a choice: knowing that leaking to the Telegraph - constitutionally hostile to the #BBC - about a serious error involving #Trump, in a programme not broadcast in US and which did nothing to stop his election, could fatally damage our #publicservicebroadcaster.

Did you know #BBC has only 1 #defence correspondent, the excellent Jonathan Beale, in the world in which we find ourselves. Our national #publicservicebroadcaster has 21,508 full time equivalent employees. Defence is at forefront of political+financial+economic agenda, yet just 1 correspondent.

A case, IMO, for a citizens assembly so the public can understand the implications of replacing BBC public funding with advertising/subscription: an end to it as a #publicservicebroadcaster. BBC pointed to research showing an equivalent household bundle to its offer would now cost over £600 a year.

A case, IMO, for a citizens assembly so the public can understand the implications of replacing BBC public funding with advertising/subscription: an end to it as a #publicservicebroadcaster. BBC pointed to research showing an equivalent household bundle to its offer would now cost over £600 a year.

The #BBC is an either a national #publicservicebroadcaster, as billed, or a business. We have already seen the reaction of big business eg #Meta+others to the advent of #Trump. The BBC cannot afford even the appearance of being compromised or put at risk.

Irony is, that if Reform were to win the next general election, it seems likely that it would scrap the licence fee, with no alternative funding mechanism for the #BBC. That would end the BBC as a national #publicservicebroadcaster. Pls see: t.co/DmiOdOLDsE

If #BBC all but gives up in this form of highly skilful, deeply researched, long-form interviewing of leading figures from politics, arts, and thought, then it gives up, IMO, what differentiates it from other broadcasters. It’s the #publicservicebroadcaster to the world and should be proud.
