#PyLabRobot
And we're just getting started.

🤖 Coming next: Lab automation through PyLabRobot integration, helping bridge protocol design and experimental execution.

Right, that’s an accidental forensic trace from LI-COR Image Studio: closed format, brittle on modern OSes, no metadata discipline. PyLabRobot replaces that layer entirely, drives the Odyssey directly, signs each image at capture. Evidence by default, not by luck.

Agreed, “not elaborate or costly” is the point of open infrastructure. We’ve built it: PyLabRobot drives our LI-COR Odyssey, signing each image at capture (instrument ID, settings, sample, time). Open source, vendor-neutral. PIDINST = identity; PLR = capture.
My gels were always way wonkier than this. Queue the introduction of purposeful image manipulation by enshittification of western blots to mimic real world experiments. But data could always be faked, which is why validation is so fundamental.

Most lab automation software is proprietary, expensive, and painful for anybody who codes, so we ditched it. Our liquid handler runs on Python + PyLabRobot, and we're sharing our protocols open-source. pioneerlabs.substack.com/p/we-replace...

it’s such lazy design! I met Rick from PyLabRobot a few months ago, it’s a great idea but still is occasionally dependent on proprietary hardware

It’s wild because it works far better than most legacy software, I was able to cut microscopy reads down significantly in cycle time because the manufacturers software ran bizarrely slow for reasons unknown

just use PyLabRobot if you can find the API

we have specific and detailed instructions for installing PLR on an RPi: docs.pylabrobot.org/user_guide/r...

RPis are nice because they are cheap, run linux (good dev experience), and you can have long-running protocols without having to leave your laptop near
