Many thanks to @philmicromoth.bsky.social for his agreement on the identity of this pyralid from Weir Quay last week as Sciota rhenella. First for Devon! #TeamMoth

Weymouth: Best from here was the rare migrant Pyralid, Agrotera nemoralis (Beautiful Pearl). This one not quite living up to its moniker though! There seem to be very few Dorset records, but I'm not sure how many. Also 4 Small Marbled, 3 Bordered Straw. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

1/2 #speciesaday no. 633 is Sitochroa palealis. Local. An impressive and distinctive pale yellow pyralid of open downland (feeds on Wild Carrot). July & August. This one is from Mile Oak Farm to the west of Brighton. All my records are kicked up out of long vegetation on the Downs.

A few more from last night
Broad-barred White, Euzophora pinguis, Plutella porectella, Chilo phragmitella - the latter is another of the large marshland pyralid moths!

Plodia interpunctella would theoretically eat cake if the batter was very old and very dry. But P. interpunctella is a Pyralid moth and not a butterfly. The prosecution's arguments stand.
