Significant tornado threat today across Illinois, especially near I-80, as extreme instability and a lifting warm front create a dangerous setup for strong, long-track tornadoes and destructive hail. Texas also faces a QLCS tornado, hail, and wind threat. Have a safety plan and stay weather aware. 🌪️

The SPC has introduced a 10% hatch (Cig1) for tomorrow’s severe threat. This includes a 45% hatch for destructive wind gusts also. The tornado threat will be QLCS (line embedded) tornadoes. Expect to see a significant amount of tornado warnings tomorrow and have a plan.

With AMS over, I'm excited to share that my recent QLCS modeling work has been posted in its final form in AMS MWR! This study builds on prior work, showing how line-parallel shear plays a critical role in modulating inflow vorticity and QLCS updraft forcing ⛈️

Here's the radar at right about the time of the the EF5 damage near Enderlin, ND, from KMVX (Fargo). Intense azimuthal shear.
Given there was a massive, high-intensity QLCS bearing down on the area, I have to wonder if the QLCS had an influence on the supercell/tornado intensity at Enderlin. #NDwx
