#Qeios
This article illustrates how problematic are publication venues like Qeios, which operate without editorial oversight. The author doesn’t cite Lynn at all; the source of “national IQ” data is given instead as this paper 👇 which appears to be “peer approved” but is in fact just Lynn’s data rehashed

Excellent. Similar model to F1000 & Qeios. I’ve had excellent publishing experiences with them #OpenScience.

Important PSA - don’t give qeios permission to post the paper you submitted to a journal and posted to arxiv!

🔭
This thread is for authors of scientific papers, and particularly astronomers. I struggled a bit with how explicit I had to be, but I think including a name is important. We (meaning all the major journals) have rules against submitting a manuscript to more than one journal at a time. 1/6

Anyways, opinion on "Qeios": it's bloomin reddit for failed academics

Interesting on how publishers respond when concerns are raised 👇 My own experience:

Springer, 3 journals, No action
Elsevier, 3, No action
CUP, 1, No action
Brill, 1, No action
Emerald, 1, No action
Frontiers, 1, No action
Qeios, No action
Cell Press, 1, Editorial note
Royal Society, 1, Retraction
Huge variability documented in how publishers respond when informed about a problematic body of work by a research group. www.jclinepi.com/article/S089...

This is certainly a strategy. No, I did not agree to review.

For any scientists following me, this is from a post on Qeios, a new "open peer review" preprint server that is being gamed by racists. I would not recommend engaging with that platform if they email you to review something
Scientific racism in a nutshell: "Look, I'm not saying one race is more intelligent than another, I'm just saying that one race is more intelligent than another"

I keep getting requests to review for Qeios. It's not predatory, as far as I can tell. Would you review for it?

Jonathan Edwards has announced that he has written a hypothesis paper on "A Proposed Mechanism for ME/CFS Invoking Macrophage Fc-gamma-RI and Interferon Gamma" with Jo Cambridge and Jackie Cliff. The preprint should appear on Qeios later today or on Monday: www.s4me.info/threads/a-pr...

Hey #academicsky (??) has anyone ever reviewed for Qeios? In theory it sounds cool, kind of like academic papers where you can comment on them publicly, but there's no accept/reject decision.

Got a weird vibe from a review I received on Qeios.
Looked up the reviewer profile. They have a pages of reviews generated -- sorry, written -- on the same day, November 25.

Why cheat when there is no metric? Well, turns out there is: Qeios numbers show up on Orcid.

New metascience journal has launched using the publish-review-curate model: preprint is published, reviewed openly then an editor posts assessment. Will be interesting to see if this model, involving editorial oversight, is more successful than the problematic Qeios model, which involves none
The peer review system no longer works to guarantee academic rigour – a different approach is needed
Peer review is often assumed to guarantee quality, but it doesn’t always work so well in practice.

AI-powered crap should be killed with fire:

"Open" peer review publication that "uses AI to find and invite reviewers"

Lists authors you collaborated with as "potential reviewers" . and no, this colleague has neither been contacted nor consented to their name given out like that.

These folk want me to review an article, email doesn't look particularly legit but their website has a picture of a real professor and some prestigious university logos on it so who knows 🤷‍♂️. "Qeios has come up with an excellent formula. It uses AI to find and invite reviewers"😐 🧪🔭

It also issues a DOI for approved articles. Qeios is also a member of Crossref so presumably the metadata for these articles is deposited there too. You might think this is the same as what the…
