The Queer Writers Prompt is to share a snippet featuring something "breaking" - the following is an excerpt from my novel WIP 'The Canary' featuring the word 'breaking' - Outside the sun was just setting, the edge of the horizon colored ochre and magenta as the navy night pushed the light lower into the sky. I smiled at the dusky palette as I descended the slope towards the cemetery. Bekah wanted to hang out where there weren't cameras or prying eyes. I could hardly blame her. Though, I knew it wasn't because she was scared of getting caught. Since the curfew had laced the night hours with rule breaking thrills, Bekah had taken to scampering out far more than usual. She texted me as she was halfway across town, promising to gift me another one of her short stories when she arrived. I was happy she still wanted to be around me despite everything going on. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling things were off. I knew grief came in a variety of shapes but hers looked absent. All I could offer was to support her until she felt like she could finally let it out.

I used to find it easier, but my last few novels had male MCs, so I find it about the same. A little easier than nonbinary MCs in third person, but just because it’s a little harder for me to stick to “they” in writing. In 1st, it was the same

Almost all my characters are 1-close-friend types (even if they have more). This includes Hero/Villain’s Evie, who specifically has 1 friend.

But H/V’s Ace will tell you he needs *no* friends…then makes the most friends I ever write (three (or 22 if you count each copy of Nicole 😉))
