Absolutely no shade on these tools meant! But they avoid difficult edge cases by design, e.g. RawGraphs doesn't have dynamic label placement with collision detection, that part is left for the user to do by hand, in Inkscape or whatever.

I'm thinking about dataviz, full of tools that aren't slop tools, but could be. sankeymatic.com for instance or even the fantastic RawGraphs. The premise is in the name, not a one-stop solution to publication-ready graphics, but something simple that does the job www.rawgraphs.io/learning/how...

A sankey diagram titled “What do we utter for utter nonsense?” mapping phrases meaning “it sounds like X to me” to different languages. On the left are expressions for unintelligible speech (e.g., “Chinese,” “Greek,” “Spanish,” “Farsi,” “Arabic,” “Hebrew,” “Turkish,” as well as terms like “gibberish,” “martian,” and “hieroglyphics”). Coloured flows connect these phrases to languages listed on the right, showing which languages are commonly used by speakers to signal confusion. The thickest flow is from “Chinese,” indicating it is the most widely used reference for incomprehensible speech across many languages, while others like “Greek” and “Spanish” appear with smaller, more regionally clustered connections. Chart made with RAWgraphs in 2019. A multi-panel circular chord diagram, remake of the previous sankey chart, showing how different languages describe what is incomprehensible to them. This was an absolute lifesaver last year when I took my no-code data analysis and visualization course. RAWGraphs and Datawrapper require data in different formats and once students could identify which one they needed, pivoting was a piece of cake! Doing this in Excel would have been maddenning.

I also use RAWGraphs, when there are many circles to scale. For just a handful, I do the calculation by hand. But I’ve found it is a smaller step for graphic design students to take to learn to calculate this manually than to move to using RAWGraphs… 😅

これ、親→子の因子とかの

I tried a collage style to highlight the alarming trend of loss in primary forests through wildfires.
I used RAWGraphs and Canva
