finally got annoyed enough at the t-deck not having a proper UI on it when working as an RNode that i patched it myself
routine PSA for people who like meshtastic to check out reticulum.network and unsigned.io/rnode in particular, its like meshtastic but with a way better architecture and scaling potential
meshtastic is flawed and its talking up all the oxygen in the room from other (often superior) implementations

just tried peering over BLE and it just worked instantly, that's insanely cool
and the battery drain seems to be much much less than sideband which is amazing as well

oh and RNode software can run on most that supports meshtastic so you don't need to buy any extra hardware!! just flash your existing one with their flasher tool!!

Organized a #reticulum workshop at @c-base.org yesterday. It was really eye-opening. We came for the LoRa nodes but got sucked into the rabbit hole that opened up in front of us once we realized what we were looking at. It truly feels like 1990, a new internet with security and privacy built-in.

and if/when you decide to make an rnode - no need to change your identity or re-discover your contacts!! you just add it as a transport option to your existing config and it just works!!!!!!

yeah literally custom firmware , built based on RNode, but have been working with claude to move to microreticulum and a lot of custom UI / storage stuff on the SD card

the hardware is fine, the software is a nightmare hobby weekend project turned something "serious" with huge architectural deficiencies present to this day due to its hobbyist roots and huge stability and UX issues
but yeah the hardware that runs meshtastic can run RNode software too
