I do think that Ze miscalculated in at least one way here: he, like many people outside the Korean Peninsula, did not appreciate this distinction. Quite aside from whose assessment of Korean geopolitics is /right/ it's clear that he thought ROK perceives DPRK /as an enemy/ when it does not.

I am not in a position to deem whether this is rational and to be honest don't want to express an opinion as I am not a Korea security expert, but basically yes, this is a real difference between ROK and Ukraine rn - Ukraine is at war with DPRK, ROK, in its own mind at least, simply is not.

and we know this because WITHIN LIVING MEMORY the DPRK had much more open contact w the outside world. they had a higher GDP than ROK in the 80s. we KNOW this would happen because we can simply use our memories to remember

In the 1970s, their economy was doing much better than the RoK economy, until the US dumped more economic aid & helped to build the Korean auto industry with technology & tooling transfers.
