🧪 In Dec 2008 a group of us measured water column signals suggesting submarine eruption in Tonga: we convinced #NSF & #NOAA to fund a rapid response with #WHOI #ROVJason. In May 2009 we made the 1st & only obs of an active deep submarine eruption. Would discovery happen today under Trump/Musk? 🌊🌋
