Unusual to see a Bittern swimming, probably the hot weather. 😉 @RSPBLakenheath

Thanks to @alan678.bsky.social for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme. The camera just loves some subjects like this #photogenic Great Crested Grebe that posed for me at #RSPBLakenheath @rspb.bsky.social reserve recently.

Out early this morning @rspblakenheath. Booming bitterns, marsh harriers, family of little grebes, lots of dragonflies and the greylags were annoying the pochard

Great trip to the Brecks yesterday. Started early at #NWTWeetingHeath - no Stone Curlew but Eurasian Curlew, Woodlark and lots Mistle Thrushes, then #RSPBLakenheath where highlights were Common Crane, Hobby, Bittern and Cuckoos calling, then back to Weeting Heath for great views of 2 Stone Curlews!

Feeling a bit overwhelmed 😁😢 as promised there was a🏅& 🍰. This means so much 🥳, I admit I hoped for 1h12m.Miles 4 & 3 were toughest but I’m happy & it’s a PB.Not run on grass trials before @RSPBLakenheath is a truly lovely & valuable place for wildlife 🥰 #C210K #Recovery #RebelliousHope

Got confirmation from the ringers of the colour-ringed (Yellow 4L) Water Pipit @RSPBLakenheath on the weekend. It is a male bird ringed on the site as a first winter individual on 2nd December 2020. Nice site fidelity there.

Late p.m. trip to @RSPBLakenheath Up to 80 Corn Bunting and 8-10 Water Pipit. Counting, and pictures, really difficult due to the dismal light. Ubiquitous Great White Egret. Can’t believe I am going to personally downgrade these again so soon, from Rare ➡️ Scarce ➡️ Regular.

Treat to swim 1km of Little Ouse at Botany Bay, suitably quite remote part of Fenland, looking across at the far reaches of @RSPBLakenheath, Norfolk Fen.
Good that lead ammunition not allowed here. Great news: this month it'll become illegal across all EU wetlands. #banlead 7/7

Fabulous day out at #RSPBLakenheath A few F-15's overhead whilst the Hobby hawk showed off what true manoeuvrability is like.

Yuletide floodwaters remind us that so much of the Fens lies at or below sea level. Sobering, but think of the teeming wetland habitats that could be restored here! So grateful for the work of @greatfen, @WickenFenNT, @RSPBLakenheath, @wildlifebcn, @fensftf & others towards this
