Another win for the RStudio over Positron truthers

Pollster: "Sir, I am on RStudio 12 hours a day. That is what you pay me to do."

What the fuck is she doing? Rstudio? The dock clearly shows she has Positron installed!

As I suspected, we're downloading RStudio.

RStudio-- and Positron-- are what we call 'programming environments'. Sometimes people call them ✨IDEs✨ or integrated development environments.

You can work directly from R, but a lot of people prefer RStudio or another IDE.

Downloads
Download the RStudio IDE for advanced data science. Features include syntax highlighting, smart indentation, an interactive debugger, and built-in support for R and Python.

"we're downloading RStudio"

Don't threaten me with a good time!

They've got Positron installed but they're still in RStudio. There's curiousity but the case for change has not been made.

When you execute a #tidyplots color scheme like `colors_continuous_viridis` in the Console, you will get a preview in the RStudio Viewer pane 🌈

Pro tip: You can highlight and copy individual hex codes directly from the Viewer pane.

Anyone know why RStudio by @posit.co needs my computer's location information? Does it collect IP addresses or does it infer physical location? That seems like a security risk when end users are working on government owned networks

Almost everything I do is in Python these days (less statistical analysis, more generalized work) but man there is no better IDE than RStudio. It's so perfect for anything you need to do in R

Very nice. I got into markdown with RStudio and then Obsidian. And the idea of publishing .md files. I will keep looking into this. (I don't blog, but I want to get back to blogging like some people want to get back to exercising or reading books)

Here's the same routine carried out on the Pacman weights. It doesn't really pop visually the same way but if you look closely you can see how the positive numbers trace out the playable part of the map. Pops a bit more if I take the log because Rstudio makes negative numbers red.

It's a reasonable request but if you could see how drrrrrty my RStudio is right now, you might never trust me again. Let me see if I can easily consolidate into a single script...

Command example:
my_script.R data.csv --threshold=0.01
No hardcoding. No opening RStudio. Just run it like any Unix tool.

Why the fuck is RStudio an Electron app 😭

WHY IS EVERYTHING AN ELECTRON APP
October 28, 2026 at 6:21 PM

Key takeaways:
Restart is your first line of defense

Don’t trust a stale session

Reload your shell, RStudio, conda, or even reboot

Sometimes the fix is simpler than you think

rstudio in the wild in the first few seconds of this. you can see a tibble printed in the console pane. and i probably shouldn't throw stones in my precious glass house, but i think ruth igielnik should know i can see `Untitled53*` up there
