Check out these images of St Radegund (who I’m talking about in my “Saints & Society” class today) from the 15th-century Book of Hours of Isabella Stuart.

Today's the feast of St Radegund, 6C Frankish queen and foundress. Glass by Edward Burne-Jones, 1860s, in Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge. The nave was the church of St Radegund parish. After the Reformation the parish was subsumed into All Saints, and the church became solely a college chapel.

This is the feast of Radegund, d. 587, to whom I have a particular devotion. 🕯️ Five years ago I made a note that there was a pretty good digitization of the illustrated copy of Fortunatus's Life of Radegund in Poitiers, BM, MS 250. Good news: the digitized MS is back and even better! 🧵

Today is the feast day of St Radegund of Poitiers.
Here is her shrine in the crypt of the Romanesque Église Ste-Radegonde in Poitiers. The lead casket contains what survives of her remains after her relics were burned in the 16th-century Wars of Religion.

A fantastic photo of the C6th/7th? Byzantine? reading desk associated with St Radegund, abbess of Holy Cross, Poitiers. Photo by Lawrence Nees from his recent book. If anyone knows of a detailed study of the desk, I'd be interested please.

This is the feast of Venantius Fortnatus, poet and friend of Radegund, who died in the early years of the 7c. 🕯️ St. Gall 196 is a 10c copy of his Carmina. Here's what I call Proper Pange Lingua, with a helpful marginal note about the meter.
