Oh holy shit wait I'd completely missed the fact RAIDZ expansion is out, I might actually consider that
For context, I used to have snapraid + mergerfs on my old server for better cost and expandability as you generally only need a single parity drive
I guess I'm gonna keep that and eventually add a separate mirrored ZFS array or something for the data I can't afford to lose

Am I crazy enough to try bcachefs lol

I hope it makes it safely. It's *super* beefy -- lots of ram, dual 10-core processors (plus hyperthreading), a 5-disk RAIDZ made out of SATA SSDs. It runs VMs like a *champ*, although I admit the Mac Pro there is better, but I'm not planning on having that sent to me.

I always see people talking about the specific hardware for homelab stuff, and my setup is a fucking beelink mini PC and attached hdds in raidz. Works great (too poor for a 3+ bay enclosure), but I feel like I'm not doing it "right"

I don't know if using this for CEPH in my Proxmox cluster is going to be a good idea with only 2.5Gbps networking for now...
None of my hosts are truly demanding of storage but there was a "deal" on these and I could always put them in a RAIDz array.
