They do have coal, it's believed that the country has many steam locomotives in reserve but the only steam outsiders have been able to see are display pieces or specials for railfans.

Outside of a few diehard railfans, who is it that you think is so excited?

It is a definite upgrade for the Amtrak Cascades route and will likely increase ridership. But no, it's not a high-speed bullet train connecting Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver. That's true.

LIES.

In Japan, I can look out the front window of the train. Korea, this was far less of a thing.

Plus, half-height PSDs are "better" for railfans compared to full height PSDs. There's a reason why on a trip to Seoul, I have *no* pictures of trains except for the KTX units.

The TdM shops doesn't exactly select for *railfans*, but it does select for people who like a challenge and much prefer to work on those old units. And when they're happy, they are more willing to work on the big boxy EMD, GE, and ILW locomotives that also have to be maintained.

Along with the Skywalk bridge east of Simcoe Street, these new bridges gave railfans several additional vantage points for photography of the rail corridor west of Union Station. A popular outdoor train watching lookout in this vicinity remains in place behind Ripleys Aquarium of Canada. 3/3

My bit is celebrating Metro line extensions with pub crawls, and doing up old-timey flyers for them.

For more technical-minded railfans - what's the big difference between the Airo for Amtrak Cascades and Charger for Amtrak Midwest?

There will always be another train. Make sure you’re there to see it.

This #RSW26, railfans and creators: stay off railway tracks and property, use designated crossings, and never take a risk for the shot.

With the RE7 down, the best way to get to Dessau now is to take ICE to Leipzig, then the S-Bahn back up.
It costs €80 one-way. €80 to go across one state.
These are hardcore railfans... round-trip airfare between these two cities is around €80
All aboard the ICE from Brussels to Berlin, a special charter train for Innotrans 2026, and a rare opportunity to travel on a direct high-speed train between these two capitals. 😁

Recently, Mountain Dew had some cool posts about #railfanning. I thought it would be fun to draw a #MountainDew locomotive as a way to say Thank You from us railfans!

i forgot railfans are railfans so i don't need to rely on my train identification skills for the alt text. i just punched in the number and found out it's a VIRMm specifically

1. Yes, absolutely, I married into a family of railfans. I *KNOW.*

My father-in-law had ADHD hyperfocus *so bad* that he could have entire conversations while reading a book and not even realize or remember that the conversation had happened.

[His kids couldn't use this to pull a fast one either!]

Hilarious to see some railfans hating on furries for organising a fursuiting outing at a heritage railway. Do you not want to see people having fun and supporting your railway? Do you not see the irony of hating furries when trainspotters were the butt of jokes for decades?

#Lupoglav 🇭🇷 is a major stop on the #Istria railway line to #Pula, and still a quiet place this afternoon. A single #HŽPP Class 7122 railcar is awaiting further duties. Built in 1980 by #Fiat, this unit originally served as #SJ 🇸🇪 Class #Y1. This is why it’s nicknamed “Šveđanin” by local railfans.

Some railfans who've had a test ride on the new coaches report they're about as comfortable as the current Amfleet seats. That's good, because recent Siemens Venture and Acela NextGen seats have been underwhelming. Hopefully these are indeed as good as reported. Also, some new, modern amenities.

Y'all aren't even ready for some of these negative scans

I'm never going to get bored of buying railfans' collections and scanning them for the first time

Thankfully our whole transportation system does not rely on cheap diesel fuel. We really dodged a bullet there.

Chicagoans/railfans/Chicago railfans of Bluesky: does anyone have a map of the proposed new Amtrak yard in Bridgeport? The locals are freaking out, claiming it will displace hundreds of people, but it seems more likely they'll only use the existing yard + maybe some of the stadium parking lots.
