Yeah, now that I think of it, there are a ton of these English terms derived from some specific era or other of politics, especially in the USA. Railroading, ratfucking, carpetbagging, McCarthyism, "-gate", etc.

almost any ttrpg bugbear - dice fudging, railroading, murderhobo behaviour, rules lawyering, ignoring the rules, metagaming, coffeeshop play, etc etc - can be a positive thing if the entire playgroup has bought into it and the game in question can support it mechanically.
Hit me with your nuanced ttrpg take.

It is them but they use their ‘valuable institution’ cachet to charge over the odds in the first place. I’ll indulge them that far but this kind of railroading really boils my piss.

It's okay to be excited for new trainsets. Yes, these should be electric instead of bimode, yes Amtrak routes need a lot of work to be world class rail, yes we absolutely shouldn't consider this to be the final peak of American railroading BUT this is a major step over existing rollingstock.

I think I gave up running ttrpgs partially because I spent too much time plotting & couldn't get used to pantsing. Also I recognized that I was always railroading players into plots I wanted to follow. I realized it's better if I just write fiction so I can railroad readers.

I use to collect trains. And I really don’t care what anyone thinks about the hobby. Even Warhammer fans get far more worked up.
With model railroading, you have to have some artistic skill (or lots of money) and basic carpentry skills and electrical wiring skill. It’s hard to criticize that.

This is called Precision Scheduled Railroading. You run fewer trains to fewer places and charge people more. This saves money, but now your trains don't fit on passing sidings that were built 50-100 years ago.

Likewise when I was a kid I had an old "bachelor uncle" who lived in my grandparents back shed and spent all his time obsessively model railroading. He could recite 1950s train timetables for maybe 25 cities and modeled cars down to the correct numbers.
On the spectrum? Never occurred to anyone.
