man renderdoc is pretty cool. tracing back a particular pixel in a texture is wild

Believe it or not, as of this month I've been working full time on RenderDoc for 10 years now :o.

Graphical issue happening with game under DirectX 11 but never manifests with RenderDoc attached I'm going to Burn my Graphics Card

graphics programming is a very fun activity where you get to stare at renderdoc for 20 minutes wondering why your vertex shader is sending your vertices out to infinity

(its because you made a 1 character typo in a shader)

I made my first contribution to RenderDoc! It's tiny, but it's something. :)

RenderDoc :renderdoc: 1.36 is out, and while it contains DXIL debugging, raytracing capture and other magic things... it also now can load and display tiled & mipmapped EXR files! For the, I dunno, three of us who use :renderdoc: as an EXR viewer :) github.com/baldurk/rend...

Question for #Vulkan graphics devs... do you all also play whack-a-mole with broken Vulkan layers from thirdparty applications?

Is there any good way to deal wit this, or should we start building a Vulkan Layers hall of shame and plug it into volk?

Detective video game where clues are hidden in the different render passes and the only way to beat the game is to inspect frames with RenderDoc

Who would be interested in a version of #RenderDoc that captures and replays calls to the #WebGPU API (rather than calls to the underlying DirectX/Vulkan/Metal API)?

This is an early test that only lists the API calls, but already promissing! Will share when usable.

Every now and then I start my game to test something and suddenly the perf is 2x worse and I start investigating my profiling data and renderdoc captures and after about 15 minutes I realize there's a second instance of the game running 😂

oh hey Final Fantasy XIII is 15 years old as of yesterday

If you ever wondered how the hell that game looked so good, here's a thread where I spent like two weeks going through it in renderdoc figuring out how the renderer works:

Honestly, forget about AI tools. The trifecta of power tools for game engine development is RenderDoc, Superluminal and Live++. Hands down the most bang for your buck you can ever get and RenderDoc in particular is criminally underpriced.
