The woman on the till at the asian market offered me a lucky dip of some sauce sachets that I assume are about to go off. Unusually there's no translation on the label but it's on the chicken in the ricemaker now so we'll find out one way or another.

achievement unlocked: fuck up ricemaker rice 🤣

not terribly, just I halved the rice and... did not halve the water. I realized it after it was definitely taking too long but before it finished so it's not too bad

My microwave: the clock drifts so much I have to set it once a week

My ricemaker: plugged in for maybe 45 minutes 2-3 times a month, the clock on it is five minutes off after like ten years (and I don't think I ever set it in the first place)

happy birthday to my collaborator, my best friend, my will to live, my brain cell sharer, my living ricemaker, my cheese lover, my light, my love, the lesbian creature-moon lighting my night sky, @kholscash.bsky.social . my life is made better every day because u are my friend :)

My ricemaker sings to me. If appliances need to communicate, I hope they will take notes-- I too am not into the angry beeps.

I do rice with the flanksteak version tho (the steak is panfried on the foil and the rice in ricemaker also resulting in only a singular dish thus maintaining optimality)

Ahahaha I just faced that question last night (from my parents, whose household of two people lives in a home 50% larger than the home my household of four lives in). I've also resisted the instant pot but have seriously considered a ricemaker.

should I just wash the rice and put it in the ricemaker already?

I got an Aroma Rice Maker on Amazon about 14 years ago for like $30 and it has been a workhorse since (or the replacement was. First one burned out weirdly quick but they replaced it). I highly recommend an inexpensive ricemaker for no-thought rice. There’s a reason they’re so common.

If I was a college student in a dorm or in a studio apartment with limited space for gadgets, I'd definitely go for a breadmaker that doubles as a ricemaker and a waffle iron. Air fryers are great, but the good ones are a little costly and don't show up in thrift stores like the aforementioned do

I am one of those people who clings to a basic ricemaker like a liferaft cause it helps soooo much, but if I had to I could do it, people treat it like rocket science or the myth of the female orgasm.. risotto seems like a bitch but sheesh

The manual for my new fancy ricemaker goes into a lot of detail, like a doctoral dissertation on rice. seems like japanese people might be pretty interested in rice maybe

grabbed a glass of water and some leftover oatmeal w/ peanut butter and ended up setting the ricemaker for later in the process 🥳💧❤️‍🩹

thank you for the reminder!!

genuinely happy about zojirushi's no-fucks-given attitude about just translating the japanese recipes for the english-language manual, instead of trying to westernize them

couple friends in this sitch have done honeymoon funds instead - else i've mainly seen upgrades to existing kitchen items (nicer knives, new ricemaker, etc) or Nice Things (dishes/glassware) for when you're entertaining

dipping my toe back in the habit of making egg rice for breakfast.

it was an easier daily habit when the ricemaker basin actually was nonstick.

now I gotta scrub a crust off the bottom every time.

i used to do sort of a apple egg fried rice thing. but i've been trying to mix it up.

We have a really basic 3 cup zojirushi and it's great! No fancy extra features but I am an absolute hopeless disaster at rice and this little guy makes it possible. No issues doing different types of seasoned rice. It's held up well for 3 years of frequently use.

my ricemaker goes in half cup increments but it also uses a japanese rice cup (180ml rather than a standard imperial cup is...237ml?)

but i also feel like a cup of rice is more than i eat at a time. like i want enough rice to soak up sauce and no more.

math hard je suis le tired
