4th of July past: Now banned citizens' do-it-yourself fireworks shows, Rio Delmar Beach, Aptos, CA. These amateur displays were a "secret" long-term super-fun tradition until they got too popular and the adjacent hills were getting set on fire. Take care! #fireworks #riodelmar #photography #aptos
Unsanctioned fireworks shows on Rio Del Mar beach. Being on the beach was like walking through a fire-fight. Alcoholic beverages were finally banned followed by outlawing the displays a couple of years later. Citizens were accidentally setting fire to adjacent hills, cliffs, threatening housing, businesses, etc. The beach is now closed to containers, BBQs, etc. on the 4th and heavily guarded.
