Today's #SewingRoomSaturday picked up from the couple of hours I got to be there yesterday when I took the day off work. Then I was using the Bernina Stitch Regulator to do some free motion quilting. Today I used it with a 3rd party attachment to do rulerwork. I learned a lot on both days.

Sunday academic/crafting update:
I finished another dissertation chapter! Yay!
I also basted the little cactus bloom quilt to its batting and backing, and have completed stitch-in-the-ditch lines and some rulerwork. I'm really pleased with its poofiness from wool batting on top of cotton batting

Positive break in timeline! I've made a lot of quilting progress lately because I figured out what I wanted to do in certain sections finally! (and also to prevent from thinking about doom) #DHmakes #quiltsky

I'm not ready to FMQ yet on a real project but I do continue to play around on practice quilt sandwiches. I also preordered the new Grace MiniQuilter frame that I plan to use with my smaller computerized Bernina to hopefully do a better job at FMQ and rulerwork.

I’ve just started sending mine to be basted (anything bigger than a baby quilt) and it’s _such_ a luxury! Super helpful too as I’m working to improve my FMQ & rulerwork.

I love ruler work!! Have you tried using some spray on sticky coating for rulers? I feel like that was when the rulerwork stopped being a struggle because I didn’t have to death grip the ruler into position. The grippy dot things don’t work well for me

Okay I was practicing FMQ and rulerwork last night and I also felt like I did better sometimes without the stitch regulator! Any insight as to why it feels less jerky? (I do need it for pebbles though right now)

The tools I used today were some quilting gloves with the grippy dots (they really do help!), the Creative Grids "Slim" thick acrylic ruler, and the Quilting Delights BSR attachments. Eventually I want to do rulerwork w/o the BSR but this helps me learn that part w/o worrying about stitches.

Yes! I’m doing some rulerwork this week and the ruler base on my machine is massive. The extra inches aren’t even enough. Thankfully it’s just my own quilt on the frame.

Machine quilting using a mix of rulerwork and free motion! The center panel will have one design and then each of the blocks another. The thing I'm most undecided about is what to do in between on the black!
