#RustBelt
It's a great point, but it was the 1960s not the 1970s when this was so. The latter was called the Great Recession and had high unemployment, massive layoffs, & skyrocketing inflation. The Rustbelt was devastated & never recovered.

Dad was a research chemist, & Mom went back to work in the 70s.

If you aren't a rustbelt city what drives population is housing supply and household size. Births do affect the latter in a literal way but not as much as housing costs, since people do in-fact move in and out of cities

I find it fun that Effigy and Project Satellite both started as mechanics in Rustbelt. The two mechanics required whole systems to support them so I removed them, but they were flushed out and large enough to be their own games!

Some of the neighbors have already yelled versions of “Do you want a shot?” back and forth across 5 houses and everyone (but me) yelled back ”No thank you, I got one.“
I don’t want one.
The breeze is starting to smell like pay day, too.
God bless rustbelt port cities.

Here come the kids!

I haven't spent a lot of time in MKE, but I love that town. And, yeah, these Great Lakes rustbelt towns are the only place I'll ever live.

Gwinnett was farms to the 1960s, William Grady Holt wrote in 2010, then a suburban county that rustbelt migrants and rural Southerners made "upscale, white, upper middle class Republican"; international migration followed, and it was majority-minority by 2009.

Despite being raised in The Church, I'm only vaguely culturally Catholic (specifically, rustbelt Slavic Catholic) anymore. That said, I'm gonna be celebrating St. Barbara, patron of Mad Bombers What Bomb At Midnight, today.

For all the talk of the Blue Wall in the Rustbelt, the Republicans have long had a Red Wall across the entire Sunbelt. Biden exposed some cracks in the armor here when he narrowly won GA and AZ. You're going to see the dam break next Tuesday.

mike davis's analysis of the 2020 election, with it's focus on the rio grande valley, is still one of the best pieces of election analysis i've come across, and remains prescient to this day

somehow both explained trump's reelection and this year's swing
