Very little chance at an actual COP to influence policy decision-making. All the real work (on texts, on technical inputs, on indicators, on financing) happens pre-COP at other smaller meetings of SBI, SBSTA or committees of work

I LIVED IT: I finally have to understand the difference between SBSTA and SBI
The SBSTA draft is more technical, covering areas such as the "authorisation" of Article 6.4 emissions reductions (ie carbon credits)
This sounds esoteric, but could have important implications, which I'm going to be digging into in the next few days

The UNFCCC has a subsidiary body (SBSTA) that can, in fact, produce scientific / technical advice to governments that is policy prescriptive! Its separation from the IPCC (which is "policy relevant but not policy prescriptive") is often identified by scholars as the IPCC's biggest limitation (2/3)

Half way through #COP29, the negotiations on mitigation work programme under #SBSTA #SBI are almost falling apart.
LMDCs parties are calling to defer the whole discussion till COP30, Brazil, blocking continued talks next week.. not even accepting the below text simply stating lack of agreement..
