In October my architecture practice had its annual away trip to Verona...I organised a short sketching session in front of the Scaliger Tombs - was brilliant to see 30+ of my colleagues all sketching the same thing, all of different levels of confidence! #urbansketching #kleinekunstklasse

My favourite renaissance biographies are: “This straightman loved his life science so much, he never married. He spent the last 30 years of his life doing science and living with his hot, young boyfriend.”

5 Aug 1540: b. Joseph Justus Scaliger, chronologer, #Protestant, whose work deeply influenced Archbishop James Ussher's chronology and the latter's conclusion that the world was created in 4004BC. It seems odd now, but it was very fine textual and scholarly work for the period.
