Aye south towards Ardnamurchan is a good spot for ancient oakwoods. Lots of good work happening to expand #ScotlandsRainforest remnants too, though it's not always obvious! @asrainforest.bsky.social

“We should have extensive rainforest across Scotland but all we’ve got left is tiny fragments…the biggest thing the Scottish Government needs to do to restore #ScotlandsRainforest is invest in up-scaled, long-term funding."

Watch to explore hazel’s role in Scotland’s forests and culture.

Nice work everyone.👏 We’re liking the wee glimpse of #ScotlandsRainforest in Skye too!🌳 #SeedCollection
Annual seed collection weekend on Skye 🌱 Volunteers gathered tree seeds from oak, hazel, hawthorn, alder, and elder. 🌳 These seeds will be provided to tree nurseries on the Western Isles to help increase the supply of native trees!

The damp, humid conditions found in #ScotlandsRainforest make it a perfect place for hundreds of different species of mosses and liverworts to thrive!

There are signs of long-lost communities throughout #ScotlandsRainforest, even in remote woodlands. Over hundreds of years, the trees, mosses and lichens slowly take over these old settlements. #ThickTrunkTuesday

Winter is a great time to look for some of the specialist plants found in #ScotlandsRainforest, like Wilson's filmy fern. Easily confused with a liverwort, Wilson's filmy fern is named after the 19th century botanist William Wilson, who discovered 60 new species of moss!

Have you ever been overwhelmed by the sheer number of lichens you’re seeing ?? 😍 This is a very old very special hazel at @wtscotsocial.bsky.social Dunollie Wood in Oban. #lichens #ScotlandsRainforest

This is one of the lichens of #ScotlandsRainforest, and it has a brilliant name: frilly-fruited jellyskin (Leptogium burgessii). It's most commonly found growing on old hazel trees, and it's actually quite easy to identify once you get your eye in.
