Decent photo I got in May of a Lion's mane nudibranch, Melibe leonina, at the @montereyaq.bsky.social - a unique filter feeding sea slug from the kelp forests of the Pacific coast! Totally bizarre, wonderful critter: I want to see one while doing some kelp forest snorkeling.

Bonus #SeaSlugDay post: Nembrotha kubaryana, which is probably my favourite nudibranch. Pic from Lembeh.

You're currently looking at Phylliroe bucephala — a parasitic sea slug that lives its life in the open ocean — and the colorful stuff is its guts (and their contents).

Another chromodorid nudibranch (sea slug) from the southern California coast - a California blue, Felimare californiensis! Incredible colors! Much more common than the purple MacFarland's, and larger, but ecologically similar as a sponge predator (e.g. 1st pic). 🦀🦑 #tidepooling 📸OlympusTG6
