A Mexichromis multituberculata #nudibranch from Tulamben, Bali. Love the vibrant colours!

We even saw an immature pteraeolidia semperi nudibranch! It has only large cerata rather than collections of small ones and was a bit shorter than the adults. #marinelife #nudibranchs

I was just made aware that today is Sea Slug Day, so here's an assorted collection of Umitama imaged.

I gotta draw more Umi stuf myself

Today I saw one of the weirdest and coolest sea slugs I've ever seen and it was in New Hampshire. This is Elysia chlorotica, a slug that eats algae and steals its chloroplasts to use for photosynthesis. Yes, this slug is solar powered!

#Invertefest A thread of my best photos of lovely intertidal critters from California this past year. First up: the absurdly pink Hopkin's rose nudibranch (Okenia/Ceratodoris rosacea), which preys on pink bryozoans from 0-30 meters from Baja to Oregon. 1/

Ok, this one I saved for last because I was *so* excited.

Picture it: Gray day, rain trickling down the back of my neck, I'm just about to call it and head to the car for dry socks and a big fleece that I stole from my dad. I look down one last time and...

Hopkins rose! (Ceratodoris rosacea)

This little bumpy one is a Carminodoris estrelyado from Bali. It is named for the Tagalog word for “sunny side up” due to the little bumps resemblance to fried eggs.

This #Nudibranch was photographed in Bali but is found all across the I do-Pacific region. Sakuraeolis kirembosa - with the species name (kirembosa) apparently coming from a Swahili word for beauty. It is generally found feeding on Eudendrium hydroids.

Late better than never, here’s #Nudivember days 2 AND 3, Pteraeolidia ianthina (Australian Blue Dragon) and Glaucilla marginata (Margined Sea Lizard) painted in #watercolor (somewhat badly.) it’s good practice for me to paint critters—they’re hard! 😅

Ok, last slug. I'm in love with the contrasty vibe of this photo but annoyed that I could not for the life of me find the "front" of this slug. Where are your rhinophores, my friend? I can see gills, which is the rear end... but mostly this Hopkins rose (Ceratodoris rosacea) is just a tangle of pink

So no Doto africana in my collection - instead for today’s #Nudivember I give you an undescribed Doto from one of my favourite dive sites in Bali. This #Nudibranch was found on the USAT Liberty wreck and measures about 8mm long.

In the living waters of South Africa, a liquid treasure box holds marine species found nowhere else on earth. One of these is the iridescent nudibranch. A reflection of the kaleidoscopic landscape they call home, they possess iridescent colouration.

Pink Tritonia (Tritonia exsulans) season started at the end of June. I didn't realize how huge they are in comparison to the typical Tritonia we see year round! The one in the first photo is actively laying eggs!

Striped Nudis are an extremely common sight at Junkyard, but seeing so many cuddle puddles was new to me! It seemed as though most might have been fighting Pink Tritonia for a tasty Sea Pen meal, but maybe we stumbled upon some orgies as well?

🌊 A molecular and morphological study of the nudibranch genus Pteraeolidia from Vietnamese coastal waters has revealed that the traditionally simple Pteraeolidia semperi species complex contains at least two deeply divergent and sympatric clades that represent separate evolutionary lineages.

A Glossodoris cincta #nudibranch from Tulamben, Bali. Such a pretty little #invertebrate !

Today's nudibranch is a wriggly one. I think it is a Pteraeolidia ianthina. I photographed it on the north coast of PNG.
